The folks at Bulbagarden Forums started hosting the Bulbabang, which is a Big Bang in which you gather a bunch of writers to write fan fiction, and then fan artists make art for those fics. I signed up as both a writer and an artist, so I wrote Jun stepped into the taxi cab., and drew this cover illustration for Routine by Viridian Beedrill.
I initially started working on a completely different illustration, where you’d see pretty much all the human characters at and around the family’s breakfast table. I switched gears because it would have taken to long to finish, changing to a more dramatic, movie poster-ish design.
Since all the action is crammed into a more compact space, I think this design coveys the chaos in the story better than the old design. I’m a little sad I didn’t get to include the parody newspaper I added, Le Monde Pokémon, however.
It turns out illustrating this also took me a very long time, even though it’s mostly flat shading, so it’s definitely a good thing I didn’t keep going with the old one.
